Town Lodge Umhlanga Opens Its Doors

The 154-room Town Lodge Umhlanga opens its doors, welcoming its first guests.

Opening general manager Lizelle Henze and her team have been hard at work preparing for this momentous occasion. This is the 61st hotel in the group.

The Town Lodge Umhlanga is located on the corner of Umhlanga Ridge Boulevard and Meridian Drive in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal. It is close to sister properties, the 168-room City Lodge Hotel Umhlanga Ridge and the 125-room Road Lodge Umhlanga Ridge. This brings a total of 447 rooms by the City Lodge Hotel Group (CLHG) in the Umhlanga region and a combined 879 rooms across three-, two- and one-star properties in KwaZulu-Natal.

The WOW team of general manager of Town Lodge Umhlanga, Lizelle Henze, and divisional director: operations, Tony Balabanoff, celebrate the opening of City Lodge Hotel Group’s 61st hotel on 14 August 2019

Town Lodge Umhlanga has a fresh look and feel, taking the brand into the future of what hotel guests want. It has four floors, 154 rooms (including for the physically disabled), two well-equipped boardrooms (16 pax and 14 pax) and restaurant, as well as an outdoor swimming pool, social deck and gardens and 110 parking bays. Guests will appreciate the excellent, fast free WiFi across the property. The restaurant serves full English (R170), Continental (R120) and light (R60) breakfast. The bar offers a full range of spirits, excellent white, red and sparkling wines, a vast selection of local and international beers, gin and classic cocktails. The hotel has a myriad of excellent neighbourhood dining options available to guests and also offers in-hotel dining brought to the property for guests to enjoy in the restaurant or in the comfort of their room. A “feast table” in the restaurant serves as a group or communal dining and work space, with plug points.

The hotel has opened the commercial areas and first and second floors, a total of 76 guest rooms, with the remainder of the rooms opening by the end of August 2019. This property brings to 14 the number of Town Lodges in the group, including 11 in South Africa and three in the rest of Africa (Town Lodge Gaborone, Botswana; Town Lodge Upper Hill Nairobi, Kenya; and Town Lodge Windhoek, Namibia).

Divisional director of operations, Tony Balabanoff says, “Opening a new hotel is a major milestone and this property is particularly exciting as it expands our Town Lodge brand and features some of our new thinking towards environmental responsibility and guest experiences in the two-star category. These will include USB and international electrical points in all the right places, an after-breakfast food and healthy snack offering and our ‘Almost Friday, Thursday’ drinks and snack evenings which are hosted by the management team. We are extremely proud of our opening team, lead by Lizelle Henze, who have worked around the clock to ensure that everything is ready to welcome our guests.”
