Jaguar TCS Racing: Leading The Charge For Women In Motorsport
Through its Race to Inspire mission, Jaguar TCS Racing, who won the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship, are committed to inspiring the future generation by using the race programme to create a positive impact on the planet and the communities in which they race. From competing with the world’s first net carbon race car to supporting and training the next generation of engineers and motorsport professionals.
The “Race to Inspire” initiative goes beyond mere representation; it aims to create tangible opportunities for young individuals to understand the sport and the pathways into the industry. The team is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion, with a keen focus on inspiring women to pursue careers in motorsport and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
Jaguar TCS Racing’s efforts are complemented by strategic programmes that target gender equality and educational outreach. Collaborations with educational institutions and community programs aim to foster interest in STEM fields among young girls.
Earlier this year, Jaguar TCS Racing hosted young women from across the UK at its technical facility in Kidlington, Oxfordshire. The students, aged between 11 and 18, took part in a series of interactive experiences – immersing them in the technology behind the Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 race car ‑ along with discussions and workshops with some of the women in the Jaguar TCS Racing team.
Women from the commercial team – including Events, Business Operations, Partnerships and Finance – and the technical team – including Engineering, Procurement and Programme Management – participated, with the aim of inspiring more young women to consider a career in motorsport.
In collaboration with the team’s title partner TCS, Jaguar TCS Racing gave inspiring experiences, including meet and greets, garage tours and tickets to over 120 students across the world. This included the Formula E season finale in London, where Jaguar TCS Racing were crowned 2024 Teams’ World Champions. The aim of the initiative was to give children from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to watch the sport first hand, as well as hear from members of the team about their roles and understand more about the technology in Formula E.
Ellie Spruce, Partnerships Account Manager, underscores Jaguar’s role in promoting gender diversity in motorsport: “I believe there is room for more females to come into motorsports. Jaguar, especially, plays a big role in that with their Race to Inspire Initiative.”
The commercial team currently comprises of 54% women, this balanced representation underscores the team’s commitment to inclusivity.
Through its proactive efforts, Jaguar TCS Racing is not only championing gender diversity within the team but also paving the way for future generations of women in motorsport. By highlighting the roles and achievements of women within the team, Jaguar TCS Racing is helping to dismantle barriers, break glass ceilings, and create a more inclusive and dynamic future for the industry.
Sara Morrow, Head of Motorsport Business Operations, said: “When I helped establish Jaguar TCS Racing in 2016, I was the only woman in our small team. Today, I’m incredibly proud that we have numerous talented women in various roles, each contributing significantly to our success. It can sometimes feel like a male-dominated world, both in motorsport and in leadership.”
Increasing the visibility of women in key roles plays a significant role in inspiring future generations. Lais Campelo, a Software and Data Engineer at Jaguar TCS Racing, emphasises: “Representation is important. If young people, especially girls, see women like me and others on the team talking about our work, they can then picture themselves doing our jobs.”
By showcasing the roles and achievements of women within their team, Jaguar TCS Racing is not only changing the face of motorsport today but also inspiring the engineers, mechanics, marketers, and leaders of tomorrow.
