Strauss & Co Fine Wine Presents Exceptional Burgundy And Champagne Selection In Upcoming Online Auction

The Strauss & Co Fine Wine department is thrilled to announce its forthcoming timed online auction, scheduled to run from October 16 to October 23.

Wine connoisseurs and collectors alike can anticipate a selection of 121 exclusive lots, showcasing a remarkable array of mature and age worthy South African and French fine wines, with a special focus on the renowned Burgundy and Champagne regions.

Burgundy and Champagne wines, known for their limited production and high demand, are a highlight of this auction. Rarely traded mature bottles, particularly in the South African market, make this event even more exceptional. The South African Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vintages, highly sought after, are also a rare find for enthusiasts.

Burgundy, a region steeped in history with vineyards tracing their origins back to medieval times, boasts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties that have gained worldwide recognition as the epitome of quality. The Burgundy list in this auction is nothing short of star-studded, featuring rare vintage cuvées from renowned producers such as Armand Rousseau, Domaine Dujac, Coche Dury, JF Mugnier, Comte de Vogue, Fourrier, d’Angerville, and Romanée-Conti. The selection even includes four rare bottles from the 1970s, each of which is a true collector’s gem.

  • Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge 1976 – A wine from the flagship Premier Cru site in the Cote de Beaune.
  • Patriarche Père & Fils Chambertin 1971 – Noteworthy for its great aging potential.
  • Prosper Maufoux Richebourg 1978 – Increasingly rare in the market.
  • Romanée-Conti La Tache 1976 – All proceeds from this lot will be donated to sp(i)eel, a collective dedicated to arts-based psychological and psycho-social practices for trauma-affected communities.

The Champagne region in France, with its rich centuries-old history, is also a significant highlight of this auction. The Champagne list offers an extensive array of renowned names, including Billecart-Salmon, Dom Perignon, Drappier, and Salon. Moreover, a collection of rare Champagne Rosé’s from De Venoge, Franck Bonville, Mousse Fils, and Perrier Jouet adds visual appeal with their elegant pink hues, perfect for celebratory occasions and the upcoming festive season.

Hemel-en-Aarde, recognised as one of South Africa’s most exciting wine regions, will also be in the spotlight with fine, restrained, classically styled Pinot Noir and Chardonnay selections. The local line-up features esteemed wineries such as Crystallum, Hamilton Russell Vineyards, Newton Johnson, Restless River, and Storm.
