Boss Better: Leading Managers To Succeed
Strong managers inspire their teams to be more engaged, which leads to workplace wellness, long-term employee retention, improved quality of work, and ultimately drives business results. Employees who trust their immediate managers, rate them as most important in understanding the organisation and its priorities, above the executive team. But sadly, the inverse is also true. In a recent survey, more than 80% of employees indicated that they would potentially quit their job because of a bad manager.
The reality is that newly appointed managers are often not prepared for the demands of the new role. They are often promoted into a manager role based on how well they do their job, not how well they manage others. The role of a manager has only become more complicated with the shift to hybrid working models. Managing diverse personalities and roles virtually is no easy feat. They need a wide range of skills to perform a variety of tasks – and these skills hardly ever formed part of their specialist role before being promoted. Without proper skills development, new managers may lack the power skills that will make them confident to lead themselves, their teams, and their organisations to success.
