LED technology at its best

CEO of the new joint venture, Kgathola Ngoasheng says: “As technical specialists in LED lighting known for our pioneering Mesopic light colours, our luminaries are also used in environments where flame proofing, like that required in mining, is of critical importance to our clients. Whether it be our flood light, general area, street or perimeter light, we have an Ex rated solution to fit our clients requirements, and if not, with global access to quick-time R&D. We can deliver such special applications quickly. This, combined with 8 years of our products running in harsh mining sites conditions across Africa, means clients purchase not only leading energy efficient technology, but also peace-of mind.”

About Dutch company Innolumis Public Lighting BV

Since 2008, Innolumis Public Lighting BV has lead the way globally with LED technology and world-pioneering Mesopic light colours (designed to emulate the way human eyes perceive colour and contrast in night time conditions).  “Innolumis has been active in South Africa since 2010 when our products were distributed by NTL Lemnis Africa under the Pharox LED brand. Due to the growth in the LED market in Africa though, we decided to invest directly into South Africa and Power Matla proved to be the perfect partner for this venture,” says Gert Grolleman, CEO of Innolumis.  “We now have installation sites at municipalities, mines and various industrial and commercial sites across South Africa and Botswana.”

More about Mesopic light colours

Of interest to Architectural readers is the application of the Power Matla Innolumis’s LED lighting offering. It is explained by the new company as follows:

‘The relationship between light and visibility is more complex than one might think. Colour temperature and the interaction between light wavelengths affect our vision, our alertness and our sense of well-being. Consequently, Power Matla Innolumis will continues research into which light wavelengths work best for the human eye. Our eyes have two vision systems: one for daytime and one for night time conditions. These light-sensitive cells (rods and cones) work best at other separate wavelengths.

By choosing LEDs that stimulate exactly these wavelengths, our eyes see more efficiently, and both vision systems can reinforce each other. We call this ‘Mesopic vision’, and this phenomenon is what allows us to deliver our promise of ‘More vision with less energy’.’
