Norval Student Art Prize Exhibition Opens On Youth Day

Norval Foundation is proud to announce that the inaugural Norval Student Art Prize (NSAP) exhibition opening and prize giving will be held on Monday, 16 June 2025, coinciding with Youth Day; a day that honours the courage and voices of South African youth.

NSAP celebrates young talent between the ages of 7 and 18 years old, and allowed them to share their artistic interpretations of the current group show exhibition at Norval Foundation: We, the People: 30 Years of Democracy in South Africa and reflect on the theme TO BELONG. “This student prize marks an exciting step for Norval Foundation in nurturing young talent and reinforcing our commitment to arts education. We are proud to provide a platform where students can engage with South Africa’s history through creative expression.” says Caroline Greyling, Norval Foundation Museum Director.

Each category recognises three winners, which will be on exhibition at Norval Foundation from 16 June 2025. First-place winners will be awarded a six-month bursary to attend the Peter Clarke Art Centre’s Extra-Mural Programme. Second- and third-place winners will receive an art materials starter pack from ARTSAUCE, along with a publication of choice from the Norval Foundation’s collection. In addition, an exciting Wild Card Prize will be granted to a Grade 10 learner in 2026, offering them a FET Design/Visual Art bursary for the academic year at the Peter Clarke Art Centre.

Cindie Ah Ling, Principal of the Peter Clarke Art Centre, stated: “At the Peter Clarke Art Centre, our primary mission is to provide high-quality arts education for all. We are thrilled to be part of this special opportunity, as arts education fosters creative problem-solving – a vital skill in addressing complex socio-economic challenges, as exemplified in We, the People: 30 Years of Democracy in South Africa.” Youth Day commemorates the power of young people and a fitting occasion to honour the next generation of potential South African artists whose work speaks to our present and future.

The Norval Student Art Prize exhibition will be on show and available for public viewing from 18 June 2025. Book an educational school tour by emailing learning@norvalfoundation.org. Children under the age of 18 do not pay a Museum entry fee.
