Marimba Band Background
At its core, the programme is about more than music, it seeks to teach responsibility, teamwork, and life skills that help young people become self-reliant and positive contributors to society. Many of our learners come from vulnerable backgrounds where opportunities to explore their skills are limited. The Marimba Band provides them with a safe and nurturing environment, bringing learners from different communities together as one united family.
The journey began with limited resources, using old instruments that had not been played for years. Despite these challenges, the band committed to rehearsals four times a week in a space affectionately. Their dedication soon translated into success. After only three months of training, the group entered their first competition and achieved an impressive 75%, securing third place. In 2024, with greater preparation, they improved to 85%. This year, 2025, they not only supported and mentored their junior members but also proudly secured first place, a remarkable demonstration of progress and growth.
Within a short span of two years, our Marimba Band have established a strong reputation. Evolving from having no prior experience with instruments. Today, they proudly serve as our ambassadors, showcasing their talent at various events, including gigs, conferences, and our Mandela Day celebration.
