NMM Cokeville Project Opening Ceremony

The CEO of LTM Energy attended a baroque ceremony for the Cokeville project at Nelson Mandela Metro last week Friday.

Important dignitaries graced their presence such as the deputy minister of the National Department of Water and Sanitation, the director and head of sustainability of CCBSA and her management team, the mayor, a representative of the premier office, and other key stakeholders representing the community and municipality.

CCBSA (Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa) hosted the event and fully funded the Cokeville project which positively impacts over thousands of households by providing clean water for drinking, sanitation, cleaning, cooking and subsistence farming purposes. LTM Energy designed and implemented custom-built off-grid solar borehole water supply and water treatment solutions which provides many a village community with clean water across the country.

“I would like to thank CCBSA who have contributed towards this important project as we continue to make a positive impact on climate change. We are especially humbled and grateful to be associated with a global brand for affording us the opportunity to partner with them on their environmental sustainability journey. This programme is indeed making a difference in people’s lives by providing indigent communities with access to safe drinking water fulfilling their basic human right ie: the right to a clean water supply. With quality/potable water and clean energy, you can obtain food which forms the nexus of life”, stated the CEO of LTM Energy Group, Dhevan Pillay.

LTM Energy is the execution partner of the Cokeville groundwater project, through which beverage company Coca-Cola South Africa has invested over R25-million in solar-powered groundwater harvesting and treatment projects across South Africa since inception in 2020.

Ntsako Baloyi, head of Sustainability for CCBSA, stated that, “there are currently over 32 borehole systems.  To date over 300 million litres have been distributed to communities. In 2021 alone, over 130 million litres of water were distributed and 15 000 thousand households have benefitted from this project. That is over 90 000 people across the country. In addition, over 1000 water wheelers have been distributed to deserving communities targeting the elderly, child headed families and persons living with disabilities.”

The boreholes were fitted with a solar pump, triple-stage filtration for purification, a motor, a control panel and a smart remote energy and water meter to meet the needs of 25 000 people living on small holdings, community gardens and schools.

LTM designed quality solar borehole systems that have state-of-the-art technology. It has Tier 1 solar panels, an inverter, a solar pump, and an advanced filtration system, a generator and Eskom power readiness. LTM Energy’s in-house proprietary enhanced Smart Utility Management Systems Software is going to be “revolutionary”, believes Pillay. It can measure any utility in real-time, giving the user the diagnostics to react and resolve issues such as water leaks or equipment/system failures, promising to save money for any sector. It is currently been used in the Cokeville project and rolled out to 13 different countries into Africa.

It also boasts security features that will help the local community against theft and vandalism of the unit. We count on the local community to help us with the first-line operating and maintenance regime of the system which forms a critical part of the value chain that is often forgotten to ensure sustainability.

A specialist sustainability engineering company, LTM Energy prides itself on being innovative and introducing disruptive technologies…. indeed, a game-changer for the green economy!!

As Henry Ford stated, “Coming together is the beginning, Staying together is progress but Working together is ultimate success”. LTM applauds the great team spirit of all key stakeholders present to make this dream a reality and the project a resounding success.
