Seven Years Of Seamless Simplicity: Samsung Wallet Marks A Milestone In South Africa
What began in 2018 as Samsung Pay, a smart, tap-to-pay feature that simplified the checkout process, has transformed into the powerful and intuitive Samsung Wallet we know today. Evolving far beyond payments, this all-in-one digital platform now lets users store and manage everything from bank cards and loyalty programmes to digital car keys and IDs – all from the palm of their hand.
For many South Africans, digital safety and ease of use aren’t just nice-to-haves; they’re essential. In a country where financial fraud is a growing concern and long distances to banking facilities remain a challenge in rural areas, Samsung Wallet has emerged as a trusted solution. With the ability to securely store your cards, make payments, access your IDs and now even control your vehicle[1], the app brings technology’s most meaningful benefits right to users, no matter where they are.
Today, Samsung Wallet supports digital key compatibility with select Mercedes-Benz models, starting July 2025, giving Galaxy users a futuristic way to lock, unlock, and even start their vehicles directly from their smartphones[2]. This is part of Samsung’s growing Wallet ecosystem, which integrates seamlessly into the broader Galaxy experience and continues to expand its capabilities. The addition of online payment functionality has made it even easier for users to shop from anywhere, anytime, with peace of mind that their financial information is protected by Samsung’s industry-leading Knox security platform.
Importantly, Samsung Wallet’s evolution has also meant greater inclusivity. For users in remote or underserved areas, the platform provides the kind of mobile-first accessibility that minimises the need to travel long distances to perform simple transactions. Thanks to partnerships with all major South African banks, users now have more freedom, flexibility and control over their money than ever before.
And the celebration doesn’t stop at seven years of innovation. Samsung is giving users another reason to tap in, literally. The 2025 Samsung Wallet 7th Anniversary Competition, running from 5 August to 7 September 2025, invites users to “Tap and stand a chance to win great Galaxy Prizes”[3]. Simply by using Samsung Pay for purchases, Galaxy users can enter to win exciting prizes including the Galaxy Fit3, Galaxy A56 5G, and the groundbreaking Galaxy Z Fold6.
To enter, users must have the Samsung Wallet app installed on a compatible Galaxy device, register a qualifying bank card, log in with their Samsung Account, and opt-in to the competition within the app. Completing at least three purchases earns an entry into the Galaxy Fit3 draw. Seven purchases unlock a chance at the Galaxy A56 5G, and 11 transactions during the competition period put users in the running for the prize – the Galaxy Z Fold6. Winners will be chosen by lucky draw on 11 September 2025.
Seven years on, Samsung Wallet is no longer just about payments. It’s about possibilities. It’s about giving South Africans access to a secure, seamless and connected lifestyle – right from their Galaxy devices. The future of digital payment systems isn’t coming. With Samsung Wallet, it’s already here.
