Strauss & Co’s First Ever Watch Auction
Strauss & Co is pleased to present its inaugural sale dedicated exclusively to fine watchmaking. The Timed Online Sale, coalescing an exclusive selection of luxury wristwatches from the world’s most prestigious brands, will open on 14th March and close on 2nd April at 5 pm.
The auction features an impressive selection of high-end timepieces from some of the most renowned names in horology, including Patek Philippe, Rolex, Omega, Tudor and Audemars Piguet. These watches, both vintage and contemporary, offer unparalleled quality, precision and timeless appeal.
The sale includes a Patek Philippe Ladies Nautilus (estimate R145,000 – R155,000). This steel and yellow gold model, originally released in 1976 as one of the first luxury sports watches crafted in steel (launched in the 1980s, with this particular model from 1994) highlights Patek Philippe’s commitment to precision. Alongside it is the Patek Philippe Calatrava, 1965 (estimate R225,000 – R235,000), an 18ct Yellow Gold watch known for its elegance and ultra-thin movement. Introduced in 1965, it has since become a symbol of timeless design and enduring quality, showcasing the pinnacle of Swiss watchmaking expertise. Patek Philippe, an independent family-owned Geneva manufacture, continues to set the standard for watchmaking excellence, producing watches that embody precision and elegance.
From the Rolex brand is the Oyster Perpetual Date Bubbleback, 6105, an 18ct Yellow Gold highly rare and collectable piece (estimate R290,000 – R320,0000). The 6105 model, introduced in the 1950s, represents the evolution of Rolex’s automatic movement wristwatches. This model is celebrated for its rarity. Alongside it is the Rolex Explorer 1016 (estimate R175,000 – R195,000) which is a nod to exploration and adventure, famously linked to expeditions and celebrated for its durability and classic design. Rolex has long been synonymous with durability and performance, offering timepieces built to last.
The sale also includes the Omega Seamaster Bullhead, Vintage 1969, (estimate R135,000 – R145,000). This chronograph from the 1960s and 1970s was designed for drivers and sportsmen with a unique Bullhead design, making it a departure from traditional timepieces. Produced in limited numbers, it has become a sought-after item. Omega, renowned for blending innovation with style, continues to craft timepieces for adventure.
