The tour includes stops in Boston, New York, Princeton, Philadelphia, and Washington. Started on April 11th, the tour will conclude on April 27th when the students return home.
Renowned as one of the top independent schools in South Africa, Roedean is an esteemed all-girls’ boarding and day school with a rich heritage and a stellar reputation for providing comprehensive educational excellence.
“We are immensely proud of the young ladies representing Roedean as they travel and perform for international audiences. We celebrate their development and the invaluable experiences they are acquiring on this exciting and educational international tour, aimed at fostering confidence and responsibility through musical accomplishments,” Lindi Dlamini, Executive Director of Roedean, explains. “We ensured that the students visited leading all-girls private schools in the United States with strong arts programmes to provide them with holistic insights into their skills and talents.”
The Choir Tour has already seen successful performances, including a show at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, a concert at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, and a collaboration with the famous Mama Foundation for the Arts in Harlem. The choir is also scheduled to perform at Princeton High School, collaborate with the Philadelphia Girls Choir, and engage in a full-day programme with the West Nottingham Academy before concluding their tour with a performance alongside the National Cathedral Girls and St Albans in Washington on Wednesday
At the helm of the Roedean Senior Choir is Choir Master, Ralf Schmitt, a South African renowned for his expertise in African choral music.
Assisting Schmitt were the capable hands of Kamilah Vein and Roedean’s Music Director, Marius Brink. Vein and Brink, both seasoned veterans in the world of music, worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that the choir was primed to dazzle on the global stage. Their dedication and expertise were instrumental in elevating the choir’s performance to new heights.
Reflecting on the journey, Brink remarked, “We are immensely proud of the Roedean Senior Choir, not only as representatives of our school but also as ambassadors of South Africa. Their presence in the USA not only showcased their musical talents but also served as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of our nation. Moreover, this experience has equipped them with invaluable life skills, nurturing them as the future leaders of our country.
“Indeed, their journey to the United States was not just about musical excellence but also about embodying the essence of cultural exchange and leadership development. As they harmonised on the global stage, they illuminated pathways for cross-cultural understanding and exemplified the transformative power of artistic expression.”
