Getting To The Heart Of Sports Development At The 2023 Standard Bank HeronBridge Invitational Development Day
Born from a passion for sports and sports development, the Invitational seeks to provide opportunities to young sportsmen and sportswomen from schools all over South Africa in a four-day hockey, netball and rugby festival from 16 – 19 March.
With grassroots development at its core, the festival kicked off yesterday with a Development Day that saw children from four under-resourced schools participate in fun-filled and passionate sports clinics held by the SA Rugby Legends, national men’s hockey players and a former-Protea netball captain.

Hosting the rugby coaching sessions were Mac Masina, Grant Esterhuizen, Gcobani Bobo, Lawrence Sephaka, Warren Brosnihan, Wynand Olivier and Henno Mentz. National hockey players Lonwabo Owen Mvimbi, Siya Nolutshungu, and Leneal Jackson held a boys hockey and girls hockey clinic and former Protea netball captain Erin Burger hosted over 120 energetic netball girls on the courts.
“There are many sports festivals all over South Africa” says Darius Rasool, Head of Commercial Banking, Marketing, at Standard Bank “but there are very few that are as intentional about sports development as the HeronBridge Invitational. Getting into the grassroots of sports development is what we want to be part of, and we are really proud to be associated with a sports festival that is changing young lives through sport.”
The 2023 Standard Bank HeronBridge Invitational is in action this weekend. Tickets are available on Quicket and matches are streamed live on the SuperSport Schools app and DTSV channel 216.
HeronBridge College is a Curro Select School located in Fourways.
