LTM Energy Group CEO, Dhevan Pillay, Advocates For Sustainable Growth Through Just Energy Transition And Regional Cooperation
In a recent article penned by Pillay, he elaborates on the transformative impact of JET on the global value chain market and advocates for increased collaboration among regions and continents to accelerate progress on sustainability goals. His sentiments were shared and well received in the recent Future of Sustainability Conference 2024. Mr Pillay was one of the ESG specialist on the panel of experts hosted by Coke South Africa, Global Compact and GGA.
Mr Pillay highlights the seismic shift occurring in the energy sector as countries and industries transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. He emphasises the importance of companies adapting swiftly to this changing landscape, identifying opportunities for growth in renewable energy generation, energy storage, sustainable transportation, and beyond.
Furthermore, he explores the power of regional cooperation in addressing global sustainability challenges. Drawing examples from successful collaborations such as the European Union’s ambitious climate targets and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, he illustrates the potential for regions and continents to achieve more collectively than they can individually.
However, Pillay also acknowledges the challenges hindering progress, particularly for African entrepreneurs seeking seed funding for renewable energy projects. Despite the continent’s vast potential, barriers such as perceived risk and inadequate financial infrastructure persist. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic, citing the rise of impact investors and increased support from organisations like the African Development Bank as promising developments.
Pillay is the CEO of LTM Energy Group and current Vice President of the Southern African Energy Efficiency Confederation (SAEEC) which is responsible for stimulating a greener economy. SAEEC is the local recognized chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers® (AEE) and the first chapter established in Africa. Over 28,000 professionals in 110 countries trust the AEE to promote the interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for sustainable development.
Pillay calls upon industry leaders, policymakers, and key stakeholders from both private and public sectors to join him in the journey towards sustainability. By embracing JET and fostering regional cooperation, he believes we can not only mitigate the impacts of climate change but also drive economic growth and create a more prosperous future for all.
