Previously, the fashion shows were showcased over 4 days at the Suncoast Sundeck. The show opened with the menswear day and closed with the DFF Recognition awards.
Sindi Shangas, the Programme Manager, explains the aspirations behind the event: “The Fashion Development Program, is aimed at capacitating young and emerging fashion designers with both the technical and business skills, thus focusing on business management skills required to run a sustainable and profitable business. The purpose of the program is to encourage entrepreneurship and business of fashion, we want to move away from the perception that the industry is about entertainment, glitz and glamour only. It should be taken seriously as one of the most lucrative industries and it can create employment opportunities.”
Shangas goes on to say: “The programme has different pillars that address different needs of the fashion business, such as the DFF Recognition Awards – recognising the work contributed by everyone working in the industry and paying respect to those that have been in the industry despite the challenges that we have faced.”
