Power Matla Innolumis (Pty) Ltd,  a new company formed between the Power Matla Group (Pty) Ltd and the Netherlands based Innolumis Public Lighting BV, was established in South Africa in March 2017 as a black owned company. The formation of the company brings with it a number of advantages, the most significant being the leveraging of the existing operations of the Power Matla Group in the electrification sector and the international backing and technology transfer of leading Dutch LED street lighting company Innolumis. This is a safety and security and energy saving initiative that will provide world class LED lighting solutions to the Public, Mining and Industrial sectors.

Safety and security applications

The primary offering of the new joint venture is world class, state of the art LED lighting that can enable people to see better colour at night and a number of other safety and security benefits perhaps best explained by CEO of the new joint venture, Kgathola Ngoasheng who says: “Our range of tried and tested LED out-door and area lighting products achieves effective lighting levels with long-lasting lifecycles and minimal light pollution. We have unique special colour LED light sources, standard across our range of lights, for special application lighting with a maximum return in safety, security and general area application.  For example, our Golden Green Mesopic light colour, in a perimeter fencing  application, guarantees the most visible video surveillance result, minimal light pollution and 80 000 hrs constant lumen output (CLO) with no maintenance over life-time, at the lowest energy consumption.”

Safety is paramount in the mining application

“As technical specialists in LED lighting known for our pioneering Mesopic light colours,” continues Ngoasheng “our luminaries are also used in environments where flame proofing, like that required in mining, is of critical importance to our clients. Whether it be our flood light, general area, street or perimeter light, we have an Ex rated solution to fit our clients requirements, and if not, with global access to quick-time R&D. We can deliver such special applications quickly. This, combined with 8 years of our products running in harsh mining sites conditions across Africa, means clients purchase not only leading energy efficient technology, but also peace-of mind.”

About the international partners

Since 2008, Innolumis Public Lighting BV has lead the way globally with LED technology and world-pioneering Mesopic light colours (designed to emulate the way human eyes perceive colour and contrast in night time conditions).  “Innolumis has been active in South Africa since 2010 when our products were distributed by NTL Lemnis Africa under the Pharox LED brand. Due to the growth in the LED market in Africa though, we decided to invest directly into South Africa and Power Matla proved to be the perfect partner for this venture,” says Gert Grolleman, CEO of Innolumis.  “We now have installation sites at municipalities, mines and various industrial and commercial sites across South Africa and Botswana.”

The Power Matla Innolumis focus

With shareholding made up by a majority share (60%) held by Level 1 BBBEE Power Matla Consortium, 35% Innolumis Public Lighting BV and the remaining 5% by the executive management, Power Matla Innolumis’ focus is on black empowerment and local job creation and will offer a considerable contribution to safety and security, sustainability, energy conservation and the reduction of CO2 emissions. “Another focus is for current public lighting to be history once and for all.” concludes Ngoasheng.
